Kosovo and Albania cooperate to increase the quality of higher education

Kosovo Accreditation Agency (KAA) and the Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ASCAL) in Albania, have signed on 30.03.2022 in Prishtina, a Memorandum of Cooperation which provides for interstate cooperation in raising the quality of higher education.

On the Kosovo side the agreement was signed by the director of the KAA, Naim Gashi, while for the Albanian side the agreement was signed by the director of ASCAL, Xhiliola Bixheku.

Director Gashi said that this agreement will contribute to increasing the quality of higher education and advancing academic studies in both our countries, and the continuous improvement of the quality of higher education institutions. He added that the Memorandum is aimed at promoting the implementation of European standards and procedures (ESG) in higher education systems and cooperation in meeting the criteria and recommendations of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and the European Register for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (EQAR);

The director of ASCAL, Xhiliola Bixheku said that this cooperation will be fruitful for both parties in the help it brings to maintain quality standards in our institutions of higher education and the curricula they offer. “In this context, lies our unceasing focus and efforts to establish in our higher education system European standards and procedures. For ASCAL it is a legal obligation and a challenge to participate in ENQA, for which we think we will have the generous assistance of the Kosovo Accreditation Agency (KAA) “, said Bixheku.

The Memorandum signed today states that “KAA and ASCAL are committed to cooperating in the exchange of good experiences between the two countries in the field of quality assurance in higher education; Exchange of information about the quality, results and accreditation of Higher Education Institutions and the programs they offer; Promoting exchanges of academic staff and students engaged in accreditation processes in both countries (as members of the external evaluation team); Joint application in regional and international projects in the field of quality assurance in higher education; Exchange of knowledge about regulations, guidelines, manuals or any other legal act regulating the field of quality assurance in higher education; Exchange of staff for the exchange of experiences between them “.
