Professor Avni Berisha Elected President of the State Council of Quality of KAA

At the 149th regular meeting of the State Council of Quality (SCQ) of the Kosovo Accreditation Agency (KAA), Professor Avni Berisha of the University of Prishtina was unanimously elected President of the SCQ. His mandate in this position will begin on 18 June of this year.

Until now, the SCQ has been presided over by Professor Hasnije Ilazi, who did not seek a second mandate on the Council.

The Kosovo Accreditation Agency expresses its gratitude to President Hasnije Ilazi for her vision, leadership, and contribution to guiding the work of the State Council of Quality. Under her leadership, KAA was registered in the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR) and was recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation in the United States of America (CHEA).

The incoming President, Avni Berisha, is a full professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Prishtina. For more than two years, he has contributed to the work of the SCQ, and his election as President represents a continuation of the achievements of this decision-making institution.

Professor Berisha completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s studies at the University of Prishtina, while he completed his doctoral studies at Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris.

Prof. Berisha is the author and co-author of numerous scientific publications in international journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. According to the data from his Scopus scientific profile, he has 285 scientific publications, 9,273 citations, and an h-index of 57. He has also been included in the prestigious Stanford Ranking 2022–2025 of the “World’s Top 2% Scientists.”

KAA wishes Professor Berisha success in his new role, with full confidence that his academic, scientific, and institutional experience will contribute to the further advancement of quality in higher education in the Republic of Kosovo.

At this meeting, the SCQ addressed a range of agenda items, including the approval of the agenda and the minutes of the previous meeting, the review of accreditation evaluation reports, requests from higher education institutions, the review of applications for accreditation experts, updates related to the accreditation process, monitoring, post-accreditation procedures, and other related matters.
