Kosovo Accreditation Agency welcomes the adoption of the Law on KAA
For the first time since its establishment, the Kosovo Accreditation Agency (KAA) is regulated by its own law.
On June 7th, 2023, the Law on the Kosovo Accreditation Agency was voted in the Assembly of Kosovo. The adoption of this law guarantees the institutional and financial independence of the KAA, has a direc affect on the improvement of quality in higher education and in the internationalization of our education system and paves the way for the return of the KAA to the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and the European Register for Quality Improvement in Higher Education (EQAR).
This Law was approved after a long and dedicated work of the MESTI working groups, the Parliamentary Committee on Education of the Assembly of Kosovo, as well as thanks to the political will to support the independence of the KAA.
The President of the State Council of Quality (SCQ), Professor Hasnije Ilazi and the General Director of the Kosovo Accreditation Agency (KAA), Naim Gashi, who have participated in numerous working group meetings, have welcomed the adoption of the Law on KAA.
President Ilazi and Director Gashi, on behalf of SCQ and KAA, thank the Minister of MESTI, Arbërie Nagavci, the Government of Kosovo, the members of the Parliamentary Committee on Education and the Chairman of this Committee, Mr. Ardian Gola, the members of the Parliament of Kosovo, the Office of the European Commission in Pristina, the Embassy of the United States of America, international donors, civil society, the academic community, students and the media for their contribution towards achieving this joint success.
The Law on KAA is an indicator for the existence of a national cohesion for quality in higher education.
Kosovo is the first country in the Western Balkans to have a law on accreditation and this is a great achievement, which places KAA and Kosovo as leaders in the region regarding the eforts for increasing the quality of higher education.
